Prior to joining the oil business I was working as an engineer in the Distribution And Assembly Division (DAD) of General Electric designing motor control centers for commercial and industrial buildings and going to University of Southern California (USC) for Masters in Mechanical Engineering on a part time basis.

On graduation from USC in February 1967, I had to make a couple of important and tough decisions of my life with several options including i) going back to India ii) get married to my wife now in 54 years of marriage iii) pursue doctorate degree at USC iv) stay with GE and work at the Gas Turbine Division in N.Y or go into the oil business.

I chose to get married and picked the oil vs gas turbines and the rest is history.
