5. How did you end up in the Energy Industry?

I grew up around the offshore energy industry. My father was one of the pioneers of commercial diving in Southeast Asia and transitioned into subsea remote technology in the eighties. With a combined love of the ocean and technology, moving into the same business was almost a forgone conclusion for me. I worked offshore for several years and after earning a degree in ocean engineering transitioned to the product development side of the business where I spent a great deal of my career. Through a few unexpected changes in the industry I found myself heading up investor relations and now sustainability. A very challenging and rewarding place to be for the energy sector at the moment.

6. Why do you like working with Start-Ups?

I have both worked in and created several small companies and I have great respect for a team with the passion to achieve their vision. While this can apply to larger companies, it's most evident in start ups as the company culture, systems and processes really take root. I enjoy helping to solve some of the challenges associated with getting the business moving in the right direction, including ensuring there is a strong foundation developed that can be leveraged for growth and thoroughly understanding the competitive environment.

Okay, now for some fun things about Jason

7. What are three of your interests outside of work?

  • My kids

  • Obstacle course racing

  • SCUBA diving

8.  What are your top 3 accomplishments (personal or professional)?  Don’t be shy!  Give ‘em to us.

  • Raising two intelligent, funny children with a love of life

  • Being part of the leadership team that disrupted subsea robotics

  • Participating in the national launch of a new fitness franchise that helped bring better health and happiness to people that needed support and encouragement

9.  If I were a superhero, my superpower would be               .

The ability to breathe under water, of course!

10. When I was 5, I was pretty sure I'd be a                 when I grew up.

Anything to do with the ocean. It generally ranged from marine biologist to engineer.

11.  My favorite song is               by          .

I'm definitely someone that doesn't have a single favorite song. I tend to gravitate to hard rock most of the time, but will listen to everything from rap to dance, depending on the situation (mostly driven by the type of workout for the day!)

12.  If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd          .

I'd probably start a few companies (assuming it's a big lottery...). Sustainable energy technology, education and health and fitness technology

13.  The best piece of advice I've ever been given is                              .

Fail often and fail quickly. Be ready to learn and realize that failing is part of the journey to success.
